Minister Water & Power, Mr. Raja Pervez Ashraf, convened a special meeting to review the energy situation in the country and examined measures being undertaken to implement Prime Minister’s Energy Conservation Strategy by PEPCO. He advised PEPCO to mobilize all segments of society to peruse Prime Minister’s Energy Conservation Strategy to ease prevailing energy crises. During the Meeting, it was informed to Minsiter Water & Power, Mr. Raja Pervez Ashraf that PEPCO has taken various initiatives to minimize the gap between demand and supply of electricity in the country.
The New Government has been assiduous to make Pakistan Power Sector customer friendly, efficient, able and responsive in meeting the electric energy requirements of industry, business and domestic customers, and move to a energy sufficient model from the current energy deficient scenario, on commercially viable and sustainable basis, in order to support the high growth economy and to meet the governments objective of “Power for All”. Further it is lauded by Minister Water & Power that that provision of electricity to the people at low rates without any break is the prime objective of new government. Its different organs are functioning to achieve this excellence in align with the Prime Minister Mr. Yousaf Raza Gillani’s vision to take along the Pakistan to face new challenges, emerging in the new socio-economic era. Minister Water & Power, Mr. Raja Pervez Ashraf, not only stressed upon the acceleration of new generation but also the importance of Energy Conservation Campaign. He appealed to the people of Pakistan to join Prime Minister’s Energy Conservation Campaign because it is the only swift solution to minimize load shedding. New Government, aiming at improving electricity accessibility and reliability, actively supports the provision of electricity to rural areas, Minister Water & Power said, while appreciating PEPCO for extensive village electrification. In addition, basic infrastructure such as food, power, transport and communications will be provided throughout the Pakistan without any disparity. Making these efforts, attention will be paid to ensure that effects help the poor to participate in economic and social activities. Minister added.
To achieve the goals assigned by Prime Minister Pakistan, Yousaf Raza Gillani, PEPCO is pursuing a two-dimensional plan to make Pakistan an energy sufficient country PEPCO is enhancing generation capacity in the country by rehabilitating the existing plants, adding fast track rental generation and accelerating IPP generation in 2008, informed MD PEPCO Mr. Manwar Baseer Ahmad. On a parallel track PEPCO has targeted 1850mw in 2008 through energy conservation initiatives, loss reduction, theft control and load management," he added. Pursuing the direction of Honorable Prime Minister Pakistan, a comprehensive energy conservation campaign has already been embarked on to save 1000mw, adding it has saved 500mw through its energy conservation awareness campaign.
MD PEPCO further enlightened the measures taken by PEPCO, after bifurcation of WAPDA, for crises management and shred PEPCO’s success in this regard. Minister Water & Power put into the picture that not only short term but also medium term plan has been formulated to go forward and now PEPCO is emerging as “The New Face of Pakistan Power Sector” vowed by MD PEPCO. A state of the art call centers are being developed, with the assistance of SSGC. All CE have been target to develop their business plan. To remove the communication gap with media, public and other stakeholders of power sector a Corporate Communication Department has been set up in PEPCO and all Corporate Entities are also setting up their CCD on PEPCO line. |
